Scouting


Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Other Youth Groups

Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary provides programming for youth

to enhance their nature studies and to learn about native plants and animals of Tennessee.


A 1 ½ hour program designed for specific badge requirements

$150 per program

This fee is good for up 10 participants (scouts + leaders/parents). Additional scouts and adults are $15 each.

Maximum: 20 participants per program.

PAYMENT
Full payment is required to reserve your date. We accept credit cards and checks only.

If paying by credit card: Send an email to 
info@owlshill.org (be sure to include your Troop number). We will send you an e-invoice to register and pay for your Troop. You will receive a confirmation email with your receipt.

If paying by check:  Please make checks payable to
Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary. We do not book your program on our calendar until payment is received.

REFUND POLICY: No refunds will be issued.

PROGRAM CHANGES & CANCELLATION POLICY: Programs take place rain or shine and begin promptly at scheduled start time. We will, however, cancel a program if Williamson County is under a severe weather warning issued by the National Weather Service. Registrants will be notified of cancellations by email. If a program is cancelled, you will receive a credit (valid for 30 days) toward a future program or Day Pass admissions.

Troops seeking service opportunities or scouts seeking Eagle Scout projects or Gold and Silver Service Projects may contact our project coordinator for information about available projects. 


Cub Scout Badge Programs

Below are several programs that may fulfill all or partial badge requirements.

Tiger Cubs

  • Tiger Adventure - My Tiger Jungle

    What wild creatures live near you? Let's explore our backyards and find out! 

  • Conservation

    Our planet has a number of natural resources, such as water, gas, and oil. Learn how you can make a difference and carefully use these limited resources.

  • Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

    When we recycle, we help our environment. Lots of items can be recycled, such as newspapers, aluminum cans, cardboard, glass, and plastic. Learn how easy it is to recycle.

Wolf Cubs

  • Wolf Adventure - Paws on the Path

    In this adventure you will use your scouting outdoor skills and learn more about the natural world around you. Hike on, Wolf Cub!

  • Wolf Adventure: Finding Your Way

    In this adventure you'll practice reading maps,  learn how to use a compass, and go for a hike using a compass to find your way. 

  • Wolf Elective Adventure - Digging into the Past

    In this adventure, you will use your Wolf brain to learn about dinosaurs and other giant creatures. Explore fossils found in Tennessee and become a paleontologist by digging for your own specimen.

Bear Cubs

  • Requirement: Fur, Feathers and Ferns

    Scouts will explore the world of native plants and animals of Tennessee. Learn how you can do your part to help them survive.

  • Elective: Critter Care

    Scouts will learn how Owls's Hill staff cares for our animal ambassadors and about animal care careers.

Webelos

  • Naturalist

    A naturalist studies living creatures and plants in the wild. Scouts will learn about native wildlife, with emphasis on the venomous reptiles and native plants of Tennessee.

  • Into the Woods

    In this adventure, Scouts will learn how to identify plants and trees and how they differ in locations around the world. They will gain knowledge about ecosystems and the importance of conserving our natural resources.

  • Into the Wild

    When you go "into the wild", you will begin to understand some of the mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects that live with us day and night; and how they contribute to the world in which we live.

Daisy Scouts

  • Safari Fun Patch

    Daisies will learn about the five different animal groups and their habitats.

  • 3 Cheers for Animals!

    Caring for animals is fun and important - just like caring for you! Get ready to learn all the ways to keep animals safe and happy.

  • EcoLearner

    Don’t you love the feel of the warm sun on your face? The sweet smell of a flower? The sounds of birds singing? Or the fun of walking on a trail? Nature gives you many gifts! Now learn some ways you can give back by protecting nature.

Brownies

  • Animals

    Learn about animals in a natural environment. Girls will learn how an animal's body helps it move around and survive.

  • Bugs!

    Bugs help us in lots of cool ways. Scouts will explore the world of insects and learn how they help the earth and people, too!

  • Earth Is Our Home

    Learn how earth is a home to people, plants and animals. Girls will learn how to make their home a better place.

  • Hiker

    Scouts love to sing songs, pack fun and tasty snacks, and hunt for signs of animals.  Here’s what you need to know to become a Brownie Hiker-get ready for an adventure!

  • Eco Explorers

    Learn about ecology, the study of how plants and animals live together in the environment. Girls will learn about habitats, the food chain, and how to help wildlife

  • Senses

    You learn about your world in many ways: seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and tasting. You use your senses all the time, even when you don’t know it!

Juniors

  • Animal Habitats

    Scouts will learn more about wild animals and their wild habitats and how we can help them survive.

  • Earth Connection

    Learn about ecology, the study of plants and animals including people, and their environment.

  • Junior Wildlife

    Learn about endangered species, how to help save them, and different wildlife careers. Girls will conduct scientific observations to learn how animals adapt to their habitats.

  • Plants and Animals

    Learn how big a part plants and animals play in everyday life. From what we eat to what we wear, we depend on plants and animals everyday.

  • Camp Skills: Map & Compass

    Practice navigation skills by learning to read different types of maps and learn to find your way on a hike by using a compass. 

Cadettes

  • Trees

    Grab your naturalist hat and get ready to get to know trees-from the shade to the science, the fruit to the forest, and the legends to the lumber. To know trees is to love them!

  • Your Outdoor Surroundings

    Learn how to have fun outdoors from exploring nature to hiking, to protecting our environment.

  • Animal Helpers

    While exploring the connection between humans and animals Scouts will learn how animals help people.  Scouts will learn the basics of animal training.

  • Night Owl

    Find out what the animals at Owl's Hill do after dark and learn about the adaptations that help them survive, the go for a hike and experience nighttime on the trail!

    Program start time depends on season and sunset time.
