Take a Hike Habitats

Water is an essential part of wildlife habitats. Around the ponds at Owl's Hill are tracks in the mud of animals that have come to drink. Deer tracks, along with the tracks of small birds, are the most common . Some animals come to the pond to find food. Hungry raccoons in search of frogs leave their tracks in the mud. Birds attracted by the numerous insects are visible in the trees and shrubs nearby.

The Pond

For many animals the pond is home. Dragonflies, snapping turtles, salamanders, Canada geese, and wood ducks live there. Surface plants, such as duck weed and algae, provide essential cover for fragile insect and amphibian eggs, developing larvae, and tadpoles.
