Acclaimed landscape artist Charles Brindley, who has captured the ageless beauty of some of Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary’s oldest trees, will offer a Landscape and Painting workshop at Owl’s Hill that is open to artists of all levels.
Brindley has a long history of achieving wonderful results with adults who choose to develop their artistic ability. Embracing all levels, from beginner to advanced, The Landscape Drawing and Painting Workshop will offer participants a diversity of instructional options. For beginning artists, technique and fundamentals will be stressed, while a more open dialogue will be explored to help experienced artists refine ideas and their creative and technical skills. Total cost of the workshop is$165.00/person.

Gather in the Pavilion for a Nature talk; then follow Guides through gathering dusk to enjoy the sights & sounds of a Southern Summer Evening. Look for owls & bats– perhaps a daring fox or bobcat. Listen for chirps & trills of frogs, crickets & other nocturnal creatures – maybe the eerie howl of coyotes? Those who wish may bring a picnic and arrive at 5:30 to enjoy "dinner on the grounds." Choose July 13 or August 13 or come to both! Gates open at 5:30 for picnics, the program begins at 6. Cost: $10/person in advance; $15 at the gate. Must be five (5) years old to attend.
Who ever thought we would live to see a five hundred year flood? Mother Nature is reaffirming who is in charge.
Owl’s Hill was very fortunate. The owls and their exhibits are safe, as well as the buildings and the Old Trees. We did lose quite a few trees and suffer much “re-landscaping “due to erosion. Our programs are still going on and we are hard at work repairing the trails.
At Owl’s Hill we want to help everyone appreciate the beauty and majesty of nature in every form. We rely on donations, not only to help take care of the resident owls and other animals, but also to maintain the trails and help keep the price of program admissions affordable. Donations of any size are always important.
Starting June 1, we are offering a new program called Trail Walkers for adult donors who give $250 or more during our fiscal year, October12009 thru September 30, 2010. It is our way of giving a special thank you for caring about Owl’s Hill.
Donor Hours for Trail Walkers are scheduled at times when Owl’s Hill is not open for educational programs for schools, scouts or camp. We hope it will give those donors quiet time to enjoy the beauty of Owl’s Hill. After an orientation session to acquaint you with the trails open for walking and rules of the sanctuary, you are welcome to sign in and walk at the following times:
Monday-Friday, 7-9 am and 2-4 pm. You are welcome to bring one adult friend at these times.
First Sunday of the month 1-4 pm you may bring up to 4 family or friends of any age.
An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day... Henry David Thoreau
