Wildlife Issues

  Habitat
The trees, thickets, and grasses of the orchard and field provide shelter and nest sites for a variety of birds, reptiles, and small mammals. They are also the primary feeding areas for Owl's Hill wildlife. Apple, pear, pecan, and chestnut trees planted long ago have fed generations of animals. As these trees die, native walnut, cherry and dogwood trees appear in their place. Blackberry thickets provide tasty July treats. During the warm seasons, the field grasses and wildflowers are a haven for bees and butterflies . Grass nests and tunnels provide glimpses of vole, mouse and rabbit activity. Field & Orchard

The openness of the fields makes it a prime hunting ground for predators. Bobcat, coyote, red fox hunt, red-tailed hawks and great horned owls hunt here for food.
