About Scout Programs

Owl's Hill works with both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to enhance their nature studies and help them earn wildlife, nature  and environmental badges.

  • Badge programs lead to immediate completion of specific badge requirements.
  • Environmental Enrichment programs fulfill partial requirements for badges
  • Public Event programs fulfill partial requirements for badges. 
  • Where possible,  Badge and Enrichment programs can be tailored to your needs, if you request it at the time of your reservation.

    RESERVATIONS

    Individual troop/den visits  for Badge or Environmental Enrichment programs:

    Scheduled weekdays from September through May; morning, early afternoon or after school.

    • There is a $50 minimum fee for all Badge or Environmental Enrichment programs
    • There is a 20 scout maximum for all Badge or Environmental Enrichment programs
    • Reserve a space with the  Scout Program Request Form, or by phone: 615-370-4672. 
    • Programs last 1 1/2 - 2 hours; ending by 6 PM. (Programs between November 1 and January 15 will end in the dark unless scouts can arrive by 3 pm.) 
    • Some programs are acknowledged by a  leader's packet.  Read it carefully and follow the instructions.
    • Do not bring tag-a-longs of any age to these programs.

    Public Events or Pre-scheduled Scout Days are open to troops/dens or to individual scouts and their families: 

    • Registration is  on-line or by phone:  615-370-4672. 
    • There is no minimum or maximum requirement to attend these programs, only a per person fee. 
    • Scouts working on badges with a focus on wildlife, conservation or the environment will benefit from our special events.
    • Public Events are not acknowledged with a reservation packet.  Your ticket is your cancelled check or printed on-line registration receipt.  
    • These events are open to family members, as detailed in the program listings.

    FEES and REFUNDS:

    Individual troop/den visits  for Badge or Environmental Enrichment programs:

    • All  fees must be paid in advance.
    • The leader's packet will contain an invoice;  note the due date for your payment.  Failure to pay this on time may result in the loss of your reservation or preferred date.  
    • Your payment  is refundable only in the event of severe weather, as determined by Owl's Hill, or school closing.
    • If we are notified in advance, we will work with you to reschedule should you need to cancel for other reasons . 
    • Cancellations without advance notification are not eligible for rescheduling or refund under any circumstances.
    • Payments cannot be carried over from one program year to the next; for accounting purposes, we consider the program year to run from September through May.

    Public Events are open to troops/dens or to individual scouts and their families:

    • Payments for Public Events are non-refundable and may not be transferred to another program unless Owl’s Hill cancels the event. 
    • People arriving at the gate without a reservation will be charged the Gate Fee, listed with program descriptions.

    Credit card registrations may be called in or completed on-line.  Please send checks or deliver cash to:

    CHAPERONES:

    Adult chaperones are welcome at Owl's Hill:

    • Chaperones for Badge or Enrichment programs should find child care for children that are not part of the troop/den (tag-a-longs.)
    • Public Events are open to all family members who meet the age requirements listed in the program description.
    • Chaperones are expected to set a good example for the scouts by following the Sanctuary rules and demonstrating appropriate participation skills.
