Knee High Naturalist

Designed especially for 3 - 5 year olds and a favorite adult.

  • Dress for the weather; we will be outside for at least part of the program.
  • Weather permitting, the orchard is open for lunch after programs.
  • Unless otherwise listed, Knee High Naturalist programs are from 10 - 11:30 am.
  • Cost: $10/child with one adult in advance; $15 at the gate.
  • Additional children or adults are $7/person in advance; $10 at the gate.
  • Children two and under free; be prepared to remove fussy younger siblings from the program area.

Knee High Naturalist: What is Wild?
Mon., Dec. 5 or Tues., Dec. 6
10-11:30 am

  • Bring a favorite stuffed animal.
  • Meet both wild and domestic animals.
  • Consider what makes them different.
  • Decide whether your stuffed animal is wild or domestic.
  • Dress for the weather and plan for fun!  Register

 

Knee High Naturalist: Lunch for a Raccoon
Mon., Jan. 9 or Tues., Jan. 10
10-11:30 am

  • Bring something you think a raccoon would like to eat.
  • Look for things the raccoon might find in the wild.
  • Set a woodland "table" for a raccoon.
  • Make something to take home for raccoons and other wild animals to enjoy.
  • Dress for the weather and hope for a dusting of snow!  Register

Knee High Naturalist: Where is the Groundhog?
Mon., Feb. 6 or Tues., Feb. 7
10-11:30 am

  • Find out why we celebrate Groundhog Day.
  • Do we want a sunny or cloudy Groundhog Day?
  • Look for burrows of real Groundhogs.
  • Listen to a story in the People Burrow.
  • Dress for the weather and bring your sharpest eyes to look for Groundhog tracks!  Register

 

Knee High Naturalist: Hungry Birds!
Mon., March 5 or Tues., March 6
10-11:30 am

  • What do birds eat?
  • Where do birds live?
  • Look for bird homes
  • Make a treat for the birds at your house
  • Dress for the weather and bring your listening ears to help find birds.  Register

 

Knee High Naturalist: Who lives in a Tree?
Mon., April 2 or Tues., April 3
10-11:30 am

  • Bring a leaf or flower from your favorite tree.
  • What is a tree?
  • Who might live there?
  • How many creatures could live in one tree?
  • Do the homes go away when the tree dies?
  • Dress for the weather and look up!  Register


 

 

Knee High Naturalist: Big and Little
Mon., May 7 or Tues., May 8
10-11:30 am

  • Decide on a favorite big animal and small animal.  We will share our favorites!
  • Does big mean grown up?
  • Does little mean a baby?
  • Dress for the weather and bring a big smile!
