Exposure to nature and the outdoors is essential for developing children’s physical and emotional health, while encouraging knowledge and appreciation for the environment. In fact, studies show that all ages benefit from time spent in nature. Owl’s Hill is committed to providing children, families and individuals with various ways to learn and appreciate nature. Through direct, hands-on experience, people of all ages can become life-long enthusiasts and advocates for the environment. Our Sanctuary provides unique opportunities, on an intimate scale, for nature programs, school field-trips and scout visits. These are often a child’s first up-close encounter with a natural habitat. Owl Hill’s goal is to provide a special experience that encourages interest in learning about Tennessee’s natural environment.
Owl's Hill Nature Sanctuary, Inc. is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. Funding is solely through:
- donations
- program fees
- grants.
We do not receive funds from the county, state or federal government. Please help us to continue our mission of preservation and environmental education by making a tax-deductible donation – any amount will help tremendously.

JOIN THE CASH TO CANS TO MICE TEAM
Many friends of Owl's Hill have discovered our Cans to Cash to Mice program. Started by John B. Thomison as part of a Boy Scout Hornaday Award project, this program supplements the food budget for our live exhibits while involving the community in an Earth-friendly recycling project. Friends of Owl's Hill collect and deliver empty aluminum cans to the Sanctuary. These are then recycled for cash to buy food for our live exhibits. If you are interested in participating in this program, contact us.
VISIT US
- Reservations for our many programs can be made on-line or by telephone.
- We are on the site from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. While we are often out on the grounds and unable to answer the phone, if you leave a message, we WILL return it.
- Except for special programs, the Sanctuary is closed to the public on weekends.
- Owls Hill is not open to the public on a walk-in basis; reservations are required.
